The Coastal Studies Institute and the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences at Louisiana State University seek applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. who specializes in satellite remote sensing, applicable to the study of coastal ocean and/or air-sea interaction processes; experience in the use of active microwave remote sensing (SAR, altimetry), although candidates with experience in ocean optics may also be considered; outstanding individual who will demonstrate a potential for research and teaching that will complement and integrate with the existing strengths and missions of both the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences and the Coastal Studies Institute, within the School of the Coast and Environment; strong interest in coastal processes of the northern Gulf of Mexico, although work in correlative regions, world-wide, is encouraged. This position carries nine-months of university support. Institute strengths include coastal physical oceanography, numerical modeling, coastal meteorology, remote sensing, air-sea interactions, coastal morphodynamics, waves, deltaic processes, process-oriented sedimentology, and marine geology. Other areas of research within the Department include coastal ecology/biology, coastal/marine fisheries, and wetland biogeochemistry. The new faculty member will be encouraged to use the Earth Scan Laboratory facility, a satellite data receiving/processing system for passive and active measurements from earth-observing satellites. She/he will also have access to a well-equipped Field Support Group. We anticipate filling the position at the Assistant Professor level starting in August, 2004. However, outstanding applicants at any rank may be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a rigorous, externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, and teach/develop courses in relevant subjects (graduate level courses as well as undergraduate introductory oceanography courses). The selection process will begin January 16, 2004, but the position will remain open until candidate is selected. Interested applicants should submit a full curriculum vita (including e-mail address), a statement of research and teaching interests, together with the names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and email contact for at least three references to: Dr.
