The Coastal Studies Institute and the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences at Louisiana State University seek applications for a tenure-track faculty at the Assistant Professor level in physical oceanography. Applicants should have expertise in the general area of estuarine, coastal, shelf processes with demonstrated research interests in one or more of the following specializations: estuarine hydrodynamics, estuary-shelf exchange processes, coastal/shelf currents and circulation, transport processes, mixing processes, regional ocean circulation, and wave-current interaction. We seek an outstanding individual who will demonstrate potential for research and teaching that will complement and integrate with the existing strengths and the missions of both the Coastal Studies Institute and the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences. This position requires a Ph. D. and will carry 9 months of university support. Our existing research strengths within the Institute include coastal physical oceanography, remote sensing, numerical modeling, coastal meteorology, air-sea interaction, coastal morphodynamics, waves, and process-oriented sedimentology and marine geology. Other areas of research within the Department include coastal ecology, coastal fisheries, and wetland biogeochemistry. We anticipate filling the position at the Assistant Professor level starting in August, 2004. However, outstanding applicants of any rank can be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded field research program, supervise graduate students, and teach courses in physical oceanography (graduate-level courses as well as undergraduate introductory oceanography courses). We expect that the individual selected for this position will have a strong interest in processes important to the coastal ocean of the northern Gulf of Mexico, although field work in correlative regions, world-wide, is encouraged. Service to the Institute and the Department is also required. The selection process will begin January 1, 2004. The position will remain open until filled. Interested applicants should submit a full curriculum vita, a statement of research and teaching interests, together with the names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail contact for at least three references to: Dr.
