- To conduct internationally respected multidisciplinary research in coastal and marine environments. Implicit in this mandate is the publication in eminent scientific journals of trend-setting research ideas/results that clearly define new avenues of science.
To maintain a preeminent status in the areas of process sedimentology, coastal and basin-scale oceanography, coastal meteorology, and remote sensing.
To maintain a highly competitive profile with state, national, and international funding agencies. Although international in scope, continue to function as an important resource to the state of Louisiana for solutions to problems concerning coastal and marine environments.
To provide opportunities and facilities for a limited number undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate scholars to participate as research team members.
